FREIGHT TRAINS EXPLAINED
Freight Trains are designed to bring you an extra way of getting high demand products, from outside markets, which you can use in your facilities.
The Freight Trains, can take 7 (6, 5 or 4) days to complete a round trip and they visit 140 markets.
You will find the Freight Trains, under the new "Trains" Section in the store. At the moment there are four Freight Locomotives. To be able to use the boxcars and container cars, you have to have at least one Locomotive. Apart from the Standard Freight Locomotive, which is available for 100,00 coins, all further freight trains, are only available for farm cash. You will notice that there are other Locomotives that you can purchase for coins, but these are purely for decoration only. So make sure you purchase the correct one.
There are currently 27 Container Cars/Boxcars, but only twelve of them can be used to despatch with your train. The cars that are available for coins, are purely decorative items only. The cars that are a Farm Cash purchase, are the ones that are required. You will notice that these are called Long Container Cars/Boxcars.
Once you have purchased a train and cars, you are free to place it on any farm of your choosing.
You do not have to purchase all twelve Cars. If you can only afford one Car, then you can attach it to your Locomotive and despatch. Each car collects different products, so you will want to make sure that you buy the ones, which most suits your needs. We will give you details of the products that each Container Car/Boxcar supplies, a little further down.
To prepare your train for dispatch you need to have at least one Long Container/Boxcar joined to at least one Freight Locomotive. Place the Long Container/Boxcar right behind the Locomotive without any space between them. If you put your mouse over the Locomotive, all Freight Cars (including short and long cars) will be highlighted. If they are all highlighted, this means that you have joined them together correctly. If they aren't all highlighted, then try again.
You can now take your train around a corner. To do this, you simply use one of the decorative cars, which are available for coins. They have 6 different views, so you can easily choose a view which best suits your need. You may have to experiment a little in placing the cars so all the cars are on the tracks and highlight, but it can be done. This image should help you.

To despatch your train click the Locomotive and select 'Show Train Details'. If you have joined your Freight Locomotive and Cars correctly, all boxes (of the cars that you own) will be showing in white. If they are not showing in white and appear disabled, it means that you have not joined your Cars to your Locomotive properly. Any Cars that you don't own, will of course be disabled and will not be white.
To continue to dispatch your train, click the 'Dispatch Train' button. Only the Freight Cars that are correctly attached to your train, will be dispatched to carry goods. If one isn't correctly attached, then that Car will not despatch and you will have to wait until your train returns, in 7 days, to be able to correctly attach it.
Once you have dispatched your train, it will be locked and will appear semi-transparent on your farm until it returns. The Standard Freight Locomotive completes the trip across all markets in 7 days, but alternative farm cash engines complete the trip, in a shorter time frame. It is now possible to keep your train "solid" as opposed to semi-transparent. All you need to do, is click the "settings spanner" at the top right corner of your farm. You will then need to untick "Transparent Despatched Train"
The Standard Freight Locomotive completes the trip across all markets in 7 days.
The Enhanced Freight Locomotive completes the trip across all markets in 6 days
The Supreme Freight Locomotive completes the trip across all markets in 5 days
The Ultimate Freight Locomotive completes the trip across all markets in 4 days
The Turbo Freight Locomotive completes the trip across all markets in 3 days
To check the progress of your train , click on the Locomotive and select "Show Train Details." Click on the Train Status' tab. You'll see how many units are being carried and how many are pending to load. The progress bar indicates the progress of the train across all the markets.
As soon as the train visits all the markets and returns to your farm, it will become fully visible again (if you have it set to transparent). Once your train has returned, you will need to click on your Locomotive, and select "Show Train Details." You will then be able to click "Unload Train" which will move all the products into your storage. You can then add or remove, more Container Cars/Boxcars, and despatch your train again.
At this point in time, you can have a total of ten locomotives, across all your farms, carrying products at any given time. In other words, you can build ten trains, and have them all dispatched, at the same time. However, you can only have a maximum of two engines the same, so to do this, would require you to have two of each engine. There are five available (Standard, Enhanced, Supreme, Ultimate and Turbo). You can have five trains on the same farm, but they do have to have different engines. You cannot have two engines the same, on the same farm.
There are buying restrictions when it comes to purchasing the Engines. These are listed below.
Currently, only one Long Freight Car of each type per train can be carrying products. That is to say, you can have all 12 Long Freight Cars coupled to a train and they will all carry products, but if you purchase a duplicate Long Freight Car and couple it to that same train it will not carry any additional products at this time. Duplicate cars, need to be attached to one of the alternative engines. .
It is quite easy to check the progress of your trains, without having to click on them. Go to your extended toolbox, and click on the "clock" icon, which is at the top of the row, second in, from the left. Click on "trains" and the relevant information for each train will de displayed for you.
FACILITY BENEFITS
In the September 2012 update, the train diversification ranks were introduced. This means that if you have a freight train, the Mayor will work more of your friends facilities for you. At present, when you work a friends facilities, the Mayor works half (50%) of them for you. However, the Mayor will work 5% more facilities for each different freight car that you have on your train. This means, if you have at least 10 different freight cars dispatched, the Mayor will do all the work for you.
When gaining this help from the Mayor, it is important to mention that this applies to "car's despatched", meaning that you could have two engines with five cars attached and despatched, and you would still get the 100% help from the Mayor. However, this rule does change, if you wanted to further the Mayors help, by having him also travel from farm to farm for you. This is explained below.
FURTHER FACILITY HELP VIA THE TRAINS
It is now possible to not only obtain help from the Mayor, by having him work 100% of facilities for you, on each farm, but to also have him travel from farm to farm for you. This means that you would only have to land on a friends farm, and with a couple of clicks, the Mayor would work all facilities, on all farms, and also travel to those farms for you. So you get to sit back and relax, while the Mayor does all the work.
To obtain this help, you do need to have TWO trains. Each train HAS to have 10 cars attached and be despatched. While you could split those cars up initially, between multiple engines, to get the 100% help from the Mayor (as we mentioned previously), you do need to have all ten cars, on at least two engines, in order to get this maximum help from the Mayor.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Clarify, to have a "workable" freight train or trains, you need to have one or all of the following Freight Locomotives.
Standard Freight Locomotive (Black) - 100,000 Coins.
Enhanced Freight Locomotive (Red) - 35 Farm Cash (Requires the purchase of a Standard Freight in order to become unlocked for purchase)
Supreme Freight locomotive (Orange) - 40 Farm Cash. (Requires the purchase of a Enhanced Freight in order to become unlocked for purchase)
Ultimate Freight Locomotive (Green) - 45 Farm Cash. (Requires the purchase of a Supreme Freight in order to become unlocked for purchase)
Turbo Freight Locomotive (Brown/Grey) - 50 Farm Cash. (Requires the purchase of a Ultimate Freight in order to become unlocked for purchase)
Further to this, if you wish to buy a second Supreme Freight Locomotive (for instance), you will have first needed to have purchased a second Enhanced Freight Locomotive.

The car carries the following Animals:
50 Cows
50 Hens
50 Goats
50 Horses
50 Turkeys
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Cattle Car , so in order to help you decide if this car is for you, I will clarify some of the details
The animals from the Cattle Car, go directly to your storage, which gives you two options. If you wish to use them in your animal sheds, then you will need to place them on your farm, and add them to sheds. If, however, you wish to sell them.....you can go to the market, and sell them to the Mayor for a profit of more than 100%. I will also clarify that profit for you. The Cattle Car will cost you 5600 coins to dispatch. It brings back 50 of each (Cows, Goats, Hens, Horses and Turkey). They sell for the following prices:
50 x Cows at 45 Coins = 2250 coins.
50 x Goats at 60 Coins = 3000 coins.
50 x Hens at 30 Coins = 1500 coins.
50 x Horses at 60 Coins = 3000 coins.
50 x Turkeys a 30 coins = 3000 coins.
This makes the total amount received for all animals 11,250 coins. A profit of 5650 coins (that's over 100%). Whilst we are not talking about a huge amount of coins at this present time, I feel that this profit will come into its own, once the boost feature is released. Lets face it....anything that makes a quick profit, with little or no work, can't be that bad!
Decorative Freight Locomotives have 4 views and Freight Cars have 6 views.
The following Locomotives and Container/Boxcars are all decorative items:
Container Car - 10,000 coins.
One-Door Boxcar - 10,000 coins

Sliding Door Car - 20,000 Coins
Refrigerated Car - 20,000 coins
Tank Car - 20,000 coins
Hopper Car - 30,000 coins
Well Car - 30,000 coins

BOOST FEATURE
You can now boost your train, which means, with the help of your friends, your train can arrive back to your farm, one day earlier. The maximum amount of friends that can boost your train is 12. So you should, aim to probably send around 15 requests. This will allow for any friends, which are not online at the time you send a request.
To boost your train, simply click on your train, and "show train details". You should then click on the "train status" header. At the top left you will see "boost train" and you will need to click on it. You will then be given a box, where you can select which friends you would like help from. Once 12 friends have boosted your train, it will speed up, and arrive back a day earlier than scheduled. Friends will recieve goods when they boost your train, so this is a case where, a boost helps not only you, but your friends as well. For a train with 12 cars, the approximate value of goods which your friends recieve is 1 millioin coins.
If you have multiple engines, then they all need to be boosted individually. Boosting one train, does not boost all your trains. So, if you had all five engines, then you would need to send out, 5 sets of boosts.
